2016 Oscars Red Carpet

It’s the award show we’ve all been waiting for! Pretty in Pastel, #OscarsSoWhite and Midnight Dreams were three trends of the red carpet at the 88th Academy Awards. Our favorite movie stars brought the entire package from flawless beauty to dazzling jewels and true couture fashion. It was a night that mixed old hollywood glamour with new age trends giving us red carpet fan girls a whole lot to say in hashtags and memes across Twitter.

One of the first stars to arrive was a fashion favorite – Alicia Vikander wearing a custom Louis Vuitton that mimicked princess Belle from Beauty and the Beast and it was totally fabulous. A high low tea to floor bubble hem showed off her dazzling metallic sandals and the strapless neckline accentuated her geometric statement earrings. Her Ariana Grande hair worked with this pastel as she floated across the carpet and on stage to accept her Best Supporting Actress award with class and elegance.

Another best dressed icon of the night was Cate Blanchett, who wore a true work of art. In a completely floral embellished Armani Prive gown and drop-dead diamond drop earrings, she seriously stole the show looking absolutely flawless.

Other pastels included Heidi Klum in a messy Marchesa one shoulder gown and Sophie Turner who looked pretty but safe in Galvan. Daisy Ridley wore Chanel Couture and brought the entire package… almost. Her hair, makeup and jewels worked perfectly with the exquisite hand-beaded dress, but her shoes were a bit distracting from it all.

Other favorites that carried the #OscarsSoWhite trend were Lady Gaga in a Brandon Maxwell pant suit, Priyanka Chopra in Zuhair Murad and Rooney Mara in Givenchy. Olivia Wilde was chic and fashion-forward as always, wearing a pearl encrusted choker, but the dress was a bit too boldly revealing for the Oscars. One wrong move and #FreeTheNipple memes would’ve gone viral. The pleated and plunging Valentino Couture would’ve been perfect for the Vanity Fair after party. Not to mention, it totally looked like a backwards version of Alicia Vikander’s Golden Globes stunning Louis Vuitton number. (Still love ya Liv!)

Brie Larson in Gucci looked pretty and comfortable in lapis blue. Her hair was pulled back  with a vintage beret to match the beautiful embellished belt which was the focal point of her entire look. Sophia Vergara was stunning and sexy in Marchesa, Saroise Ronan repped her homeland in a dazzling deep emerald Calvin Klein number and Mindy Kaling gave us business-in-the-front/party-in-the-back in a black and blue Elizabeth Kennedy gown. Naomi Watts won the midnight goddess award (if there were one) in a sequin, fish-scale, strapless, Armani Prive. She gave us a bold red lip and statement necklace, topping off the entire package as the perfect 10. Other midnight dream gowns included Jennifer Lawrence in a plunging, black, lace Dior favorite and Jennifer Garner looking sexy old Hollywood glam in dark Versace.

Tommy Hilfiger – NYFW SS16

What do you get when the ultimate American prepster spends way too much time island hopping around the Caribbean? An insane good collection full of hip hugger striped pants, floral maxis and colorful crocheted bikinis.

Just as we thought we were over summer Fridays, pool parties and Instagram vacations, Hilfiger hit us hard with a relapse, taking us back to summer vacation mode at his Spring/Summer 2016 NYFW show late Monday morning. He even brought the boardwalk-turned-runway, tiki shack, sand and splash along with a live reggae band that had us feelin’ right.

Hilfiger turned his classic American staples – the tennis skirt, bucket hat and varsity jacket, into an island dream with easy breezy fabrics and playful prints. Rainbow halters, wide denim culottes and striped shift dresses gave the collection a 1970s, Jamaican beach bum vibe. Crocheted bucket bags, platform espadrille sandals and fringe necklaces were the accessories of choice in green, yellow, orange and red. Staying true to his navy roots throughout the line, Hilfiger stylishly captivated the Tommy girl with effervescent island magic. The hottie Hadid sisters closed the show by leading a pack of models splashing through the runway-surrounded pool while we were left dreaming in our seats about our next island getaway.

Delpozo – NYFW SS16

Delpozo took us to a fairytale this season balancing quirk with femininity through a soft color palette and structured fabrics. Set midday on the water with an accordion band playing in the background, the production told us the story of a quirky Parisian girl falling in love with a passionate Spanish poet. Slow paced and relaxed, models strolled the runway in a mix of tailored separates and fringe metallics paired with flamenco ruffles and embroidered flowers. Josep Font, the man behind it all, was inspired by “The Gypsy Ballads.” This spring is all about the “modern yet passionate woman,” he said. Tiers of tulle were toned down with cropped band tops, peter pan collars and the wrapped tie waist.

The show was also the debut of his new handbag collection. In a variety of styles and colors, the bags were structured and adorned with raffia and glitter – a new twist on a classic accessory. The full line will be available in January.
